Norland was founded in 1892 by Emily Ward as the first educational establishment to offer any kind of childcare training. It has been at the forefront of childcare training ever since.
The education at Norland has always been progressive. Today’s students study for a BA (Hons) degree in Early Years Development and Learning alongside the prestigious Norland Diploma, a unique qualification which teaches the practical skills it takes to become a Norland Nanny.
Norland graduates are famous for their best in class standard of training and their iconic uniforms. Norland-trained early years professionals are employed worldwide through the Norland Agency as Norland Nannies and Maternity Nurses.
In 2019, Norland was awarded Taught Degree Awarding Powers (TDAP) from the Privy Council. Its first major step towards becoming the first early years university in the world.
Dr Janet Rose, Principal of Norland, was keynote speaker at The Great British Nanny Conference in 2019. The event united nannies across the UK and internationally. Norland continues to support Nannies and the Nanny industry in many ways. 1 May 2020 saw the launch of the UK Nannies Matter Campaign, which Norland is proud to partner.
This heartfelt and passionate campaign strives to empower Nannies through regulation, recognition and advocation within the UK.
With the support of Norland, businesses and professionals pledging their support for the UK Nannies Matter Campaign look forward to making a positive and desperately needed change in the industry.
